MPPM denuncia a impunidade com que Israel prossegue a sua campanha criminosa contra o povo palestino e o seu total desrespeito pela legalidade internacional

A campanha criminosa e genocida levada a cabo por Israel contra o povo palestino continua e aprofunda-se, sem que sejam tomadas medidas sérias e concretas para a travar. Israel tem exibido a total impunidade dos seus crimes, cometidos em toda a Palestina – dentro das suas próprias fronteiras, nos Territórios Ocupados em 1967 e até mesmo em espaço internacional ou território de países soberanos.

Os crimes praticados em Gaza por Israel, após quase dois anos de agressão e genocídio desenfreado são impossíveis de listar e descrever: bombardeamento de hospitais, escolas, tendas humanitárias ou improvisadas e todo o tipo de infra estruturas, demolição de bairros e cidades inteiras, assassinatos indiscriminados a tiro, com drones ou robots, deslocamento forçado de populações... Tudo isto somado a um bloqueio com mais de 18 anos e que nos últimos dois se tornou absoluto, sendo utilizado por Israel para praticar uma política de extermínio através da fome, da sede e da ausência de bens essenciais à vida, assim como para a desmoralização, desumanização e humilhação do povo de Gaza. Nos últimos dias, Israel tem aterrorizado a população da cidade de Gaza com ameaças para que abandone a cidade, sob pena da prática de crimes ainda mais horrendos do que os praticados até agora.

Também na Cisjordânia, incluindo Jerusalém, Israel dá livre curso à sua impunidade. Há poucos dias foi anunciada a aprovação da construção de colonatos na Zona E1, a leste de Jerusalém, implicando a ocupação de novas terras, a expulsão de populações palestinas e a separação da Cisjordânia em duas metades, com a interposição física de colonatos, muros e checkpoints israelitas, cortando a comunicação entre o Norte e o Sul. O Ministro das Finanças israelita, Smotrich, não se coibiu em afirmar que o objectivo da construção deste colonato é “enterrar a ideia de Estado da Palestina”.

Entretanto, milícias de colonos armados continuam a aterrorizar, a destruir bens e a matar populações palestinas, com a protecção e a e supervisão das autoridades israelitas. Os abusos contra os presos, intensificados nos últimos anos conforme denunciado por diversas organizações e relatórios, sucedem-se sem que as autoridades israelitas sofram qualquer reparo ou sanção. É de lembrar que Israel mantém na prisão líderes políticos e sociais palestinos, médicos, mulheres e até crianças, em muitos casos sob o regime de prisão administrativa, sem julgamento ou acusações formais.

Nos últimos dias, Israel bombardeou o Iémen, tendo assassinado o primeiro-ministro e outros membros do governo, a Síria, o Líbano e agorao Catar, visando a delegação palestina nas negociações de cessar-fogo, demonstrando além do seu banditismo internacional a total ausência de seriedade nessas negociações. 

O MPPM condena ainda a crescente ameaça e perseguição contra os cidadãos de diversos países que se têm manifestado contra os crimes de Israel. Em Inglaterra, na Alemanha, em Espanha e noutros países, pessoas têm sido detidas e as manifestações de solidariedade com a luta do povo palestino reprimidas com violência.

O MPPM condena as ameaças, perseguições e os atos de banditismo que têm sido cometidos contra a Global Sumud Flotilla, em particular contra navios de pavilhão e cidadãos portugueses, sem que o governo português tenha exigido ou prestado explicações claras ou manifestado qualquer atitude pública que não seja de cobardia e submissão aos desígnios de Israel, ainda que em aberta afronta ao Direito Internacional.

A capacidade coerciva, genocida e de uso da violência exibida por Israel é facilitada directamente pelos EUA, grande parte dos países da União Europeia e outros aliados. A impunidade dos seus crimes é garantida pela protecção política, diplomática, económica e militar que estes garantem ao projecto sionista. 

Assim, o MPPM reafirma:

• A exigência ao Governo português de tomar todas as medidas necessárias para que Portugal não seja envolvido, directa ou indirectamente, no genocídio e crimes israelitas em curso, com suspensão toda a cooperação com Israel, mormente no plano militar;
• A urgência em que o Governo português desenvolva e se associe nas diferentes instituições internacionais às iniciativas tomadas para impedir, sancionar e punir os crimes de Israel, nomeadamente exigindo a suspensão imediata do Acordo de Associação União Europeia-Israel, especialmente no que respeita as trocas comerciais, bem como suspendendo a participação de Israel em programas de investigação e desenvolvimento financiados pela UE, designadamente o Horizon Europe;
• A exigência ao Governo português de reconhecer sem mais demoras e condições, o Estado da Palestina;
• A exigência da libertação dos presos palestinos, detidos pelas autoridades israelitas;
• A sua condenação dos crimes de Israel – genocídio, limpeza étnica, fome provocada, apartheid, assassinatos, abusos de todo o tipo, banditismo internacional e terrorismo de Estado, provocações a países terceiros, entre outros – e alerta que a não ser travada a impunidade de Israel, estes crimes se vão suceder, agravar e alastrar;
• O seu apelo ao povo português e a todos os que têm lutado contra os crimes de Israel e demonstrado o seu apoio à causa palestina e aos direitos inalienáveis do seu povo, para que reforcem esta luta, nomeadamente mobilizando e juntando-se à Campanha de Solidariedade com o Povo Palestino – Todos pela Palestina, Fim ao Genocídio, Fim à Ocupação (lançada pelo MPPM, CPPC, CGTP-IN, Projecto Ruído e à qual se estão a juntar muitas outras organizações e personalidades). Apela-se, em particular, à participação na concentração do próximo dia 16 de Setembro, pelas 18h no Largo Camões, em Lisboa, exigindo o fim dos crimes de Israel.

MPPM denounces Israel's impunity in continuing its criminal campaign against the Palestinian people and its total disregard for international law

Israel's criminal and genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people continues and intensifies, without any serious and concrete measures being taken to stop it. Israel has shown total impunity for its crimes, committed throughout Palestine – within its own borders, in the Territories Occupied in 1967 and even in international space or the territory of sovereign countries.

The crimes committed in Gaza by Israel, after almost two years of aggression and unbridled genocide, are impossible to list and describe: bombing of hospitals, schools, humanitarian or makeshift tents and all kinds of infrastructure, demolition of neighbourhoods and entire cities, indiscriminate killings by shooting, drones or robots, forced displacement of populations... All this is compounded by a blockade that has lasted more than 18 years and has become absolute in the last two years, being used by Israel to practise a policy of extermination through hunger, thirst and the absence of essential goods, as well as to demoralise, dehumanise and humiliate the people of Gaza. In recent days, Israel has terrorised the population of Gaza City with threats to leave the city, under penalty of even more horrific crimes than those committed so far.

In the West Bank, including Jerusalem, Israel also gives free rein to its impunity. A few days ago, the approval of the construction of settlements in the E1 Zone, east of Jerusalem, was announced, implying the occupation of new lands, the expulsion of Palestinian populations and the separation of the West Bank into two halves, with the physical interposition of Israeli settlements, walls and checkpoints, cutting off communication between the North and the South. Israeli Finance Minister Smotrich did not shy away from stating that the purpose of building this settlement is to ‘bury the idea of a Palestinian state’.

Meanwhile, armed settler militias continue to terrorise, destroy property and kill Palestinian populations, with the protection and supervision of the Israeli authorities. Abuses against prisoners, which have intensified in recent years as reported by various organisations and reports, continue without the Israeli authorities being subject to any criticism or sanctions. It should be remembered that Israel keeps Palestinian political and social leaders, doctors, women and even children in prison, in many cases under administrative detention, without trial or formal charges.

In recent days, Israel has bombed Yemen, assassinating the prime minister and other members of the government, Syria, Lebanon and now Qatar, targeting the Palestinian delegation in the ceasefire negotiations, demonstrating not only its international banditry but also its total lack of seriousness in these negotiations. 

The MPPM also condemns the growing threat and persecution against citizens of various countries who have spoken out against Israel's crimes. In England, Germany, Spain and other countries, people have been detained and demonstrations of solidarity with the Palestinian people's struggle have been violently repressed.

The MPPM condemns the threats, persecution and acts of banditry that have been committed against the Global Sumud Flotilla, in particular against Portuguese-flagged ships and Portuguese citizens, without the Portuguese government having demanded or provided clear explanations or expressed any public attitude other than cowardice and submission to Israel's designs, even in open defiance of international law.

Israel's coercive, genocidal and violent capacity is directly facilitated by the US, most European Union countries and other allies. The impunity of its crimes is guaranteed by the political, diplomatic, economic and military protection that they provide to the Zionist project. 

Therefore, the MPPM reaffirms:

• The demand that the Portuguese Government take all necessary measures to ensure that Portugal is not involved, directly or indirectly, in the ongoing Israeli genocide and crimes, with the suspension of all cooperation with Israel, especially in the military sphere;
• The urgency for the Portuguese Government to develop and join the various international institutions in initiatives taken to prevent, sanction and punish Israel's crimes, namely by demanding the immediate suspension of the European Union-Israel Association Agreement, especially with regard to trade, as well as suspending Israel's participation in EU-funded research and development programmes, namely Horizon Europe;
• The demand that the Portuguese Government recognise the State of Palestine without further delay or conditions;
• The demand for the release of Palestinian prisoners detained by the Israeli authorities;
• Its condemnation of Israel's crimes – genocide, ethnic cleansing, provoked famine, apartheid, murders, abuses of all kinds, international banditry and state terrorism, provocations to third countries, among others – and its warning that unless Israel's impunity is stopped, these crimes will continue, worsen and spread;
• Its appeal to the Portuguese people and to all those who have fought against Israel's crimes and shown their support for the Palestinian cause and the inalienable rights of its people, to strengthen this struggle, in particular by mobilising and joining the Campaign of Solidarity with the Palestinian People – All for Palestine, End the Genocide, End the Occupation (launched by MPPM, CPPC, CGTP-IN, Project Ruído and joined by many other organisations and personalities). We particularly call for participation in the rally on 16 September at 6 p.m. in Largo Camões, Lisbon, demanding an end to Israel's crimes.
