MPPM condena energicamente ataque de Israel ao Irão

O MPPM condena energicamente o ataque militar que Israel desencadeou esta madrugada contra o Irão, uma agressão que viola de forma grosseira o direito internacional e a soberania do Irão. Este ataque, ilegal, ilegítimo e não provocado, inscreve-se na sistemática política belicista do Estado de Israel e põe em causa a segurança e a estabilidade de toda a região do Médio Oriente, com consequências gravíssimas e de dimensão imprevisível.

Esta agressão não teria sido possível sem a colaboração activa dos Estados Unidos da América e a complacência ou cumplicidade das potências europeias, que continuam a compactuar com as acções criminosas de Israel.

É inaceitável a narrativa hipócrita, que mais uma vez se repete, de não condenar o agressor e depois apelar à «contenção» de ambas as partes. Este discurso mascara a realidade dos factos e contribui para a normalização da violência israelita.

É igualmente inaceitável que o Irão continue a ser acusado de pretensões nucleares de tipo militar sem provas credíveis, enquanto se ignora sistematicamente que Israel é, desde há décadas, a única potência nuclear do Médio Oriente, fora de qualquer tratado de não proliferação e sem inspecções internacionais. O Irão era parte de um acordo que estava a cumprir mas que os EUA denunciaram e de que a Europa se afastou em silêncio.

Este ataque insere-se num padrão mais vasto de agressão e ocupação por parte de Israel. Israel prossegue a sua ofensiva genocida contra o povo palestino na Faixa de Gaza e na Cisjordânia ocupada. Mantém a ocupação de parte do território libanês, em transgressão do acordo de cessar-fogo, que aliás tem violado milhares de vezes. Nunca abandonou a parte dos Montes Golã sírios que ocupou em 1967, e desde Dezembro de 2024 aumentou até a área ocupada em território sírio.

Este ataque ocorre, também, numa altura em que a pressão da opinião pública internacional estava a enfraquecer a imagem mediática de Israel e a gerar reservas em alguns dos seus mais firmes aliados. E a manobra parece ter resultado porquanto todos se apressaram já a testemunhar a Israel o seu incondicional apoio.

Israel confirma, mais uma vez, que é um Estado agressor e belicista. A cumplicidade, a complacência com a violação do direito internacional e a inacção da comunidade internacional apenas reforçam a sua impunidade.

O MPPM exige do governo português uma condenação clara, firme e inequívoca do ataque israelita ao Irão. Agora com redobrada razão, o MPPM reclama a interrupção imediata de quaisquer relações militares com Israel e o fim de qualquer fornecimento de armas ou equipamentos de uso militar.

Israel é uma ameaça à paz! A paz no Médio Oriente e no mundo exige o fim da impunidade de Israel.

MPPM strongly condemns Israel's attack on Iran

The MPPM strongly condemns the military attack launched by Israel early this morning against Iran, an act of aggression that grossly violates international law and Iran's sovereignty. This illegal, illegitimate and unprovoked attack is part of the State of Israel's systematic warmongering policy and jeopardises the security and stability of the entire Middle East region, with extremely serious and unpredictable consequences.

This aggression would not have been possible without the active collaboration of the United States of America and the complacency or complicity of the European powers, which continue to condone Israel's criminal actions.

The hypocritical narrative, which is once again being repeated, of not condemning the aggressor and then calling for “restraint” on both sides is unacceptable. This discourse masks the reality of the facts and contributes to the normalisation of Israeli violence.

It is equally unacceptable that Iran continues to be accused of military nuclear ambitions without credible evidence, while it is systematically ignored that Israel has been the only nuclear power in the Middle East for decades, outside any non-proliferation treaty and without international inspections. Iran was part of an agreement that it was complying with but which the US denounced and from which Europe quietly withdrew.

This attack is part of a broader pattern of aggression and occupation by Israel. Israel continues its genocidal offensive against the Palestinian people in the Gaza Strip and the occupied West Bank. It maintains its occupation of part of Lebanese territory, in violation of the ceasefire agreement, which it has violated thousands of times. It has never abandoned the part of the Syrian Golan Heights it occupied in 1967, and since December 2024 it has increased the area it occupies in Syrian territory.

This attack also comes at a time when international public pressure was weakening Israel's media image and generating reservations among some of its staunchest allies. And the manoeuvre seems to have worked, as everyone has already rushed to express their unconditional support for Israel.

Israel confirms, once again, that it is an aggressive and warmongering state. Complicity, complacency with the violation of international law and the inaction of the international community only reinforce its impunity.

The MPPM demands that the Portuguese government issue a clear, firm and unequivocal condemnation of the Israeli attack on Iran. Now with even greater reason, the MPPM calls for the immediate cessation of all military relations with Israel and an end to all supplies of weapons or equipment for military use.

Israel is a threat to peace! Peace in the Middle East and in the world requires an end to Israel's impunity.

Throughout the world, the clamour of the peoples for peace drowns out that of the heralds of war. In Portugal, we will make our voice heard once again at the demonstration called for Tuesday, 17 June, starting at 6 p.m., between Praça Luís de Camões and the Assembly of the Republic. Everyone is invited!
