MPPM assinala o Dia dos Presos Palestinos e reafirma a sua solidariedade com o povo palestino

No Dia dos Presos Palestinos, o MPPM denuncia as violações de direitos humanos praticadas por Israel, reclama a libertação imediata dos presos políticos palestinos, exige das autoridades portuguesas que se abstenha de acções de cumplicidade com o genocídio israelita e reafirma a sua incondicional solidariedade com o povo palestino.

Assinala-se hoje – dia 17 de Abril – o Dia dos Presos Palestinos. Este dia foi decretado pelo Conselho Nacional Palestino e celebrado pela primeira vez em 1974, a escassos oito dias do 25 de Abril que permitiu a libertação de centenas de presos políticos e o fim da perseguição e prisão por motivos políticos em Portugal.

Na sua actividade regular, e com especial ênfase em cada dia 17 de Abril, o MPPM tem denunciado as criminosas, ilegais e ilegítimas perseguições e prisões levadas a cabo por Israel contra activistas e militantes da causa nacional palestina, os abusos e a quase absoluta impunidade e hipocrisia de que Israel goza nestas suas práticas inaceitáveis.

Hoje, entrados bem mais de 18 meses da maior campanha genocida de Israel contra o povo palestino, novas e mais grotescas imagens, casos e exemplos da ausência de limites para a perfídia de Israel no tratamento dos presos palestinos têm ficado expostas a todo o mundo, quase diariamente.

Todos têm presente ainda as imagens de largos grupos de pessoas, quase nuas, de mãos atadas, de olhos vendados a serem expostas de armas apontadas nas ruas destruídas pelos bombardeamentos israelitas em Gaza. 

Ninguém de sã consciência deixou de se indignar com a sinistra perseguição movida ao Dr. Hussam Abu Safiya – director do Hospital Kamal Adwan Hospital, em Gaza – que continua, ainda hoje e desde o dia 27 de Dezembro, em cativeiro, submetido a duras condições e praticamente sem contacto com o seu advogado.

A actual campanha genocida em Gaza é fértil em casos chocantes como estes, mas não só aí a acção criminosa e especialmente cruel de Israel contra os presos palestinos tem sido exposta a todos quantos a queiram ver. No dia 7 de Abril faleceu nas prisões israelitas o resistente palestino Walid Daqqa, que estava preso desde 1986, perfazendo assim 38 anos nos cárceres israelitas, os últimos dos quais gravemente doente e sem o acompanhamento médico que o seu estado de saúde exigia. Até ao dia de hoje, as autoridades israelitas (não só por acção do governo, mas também do Supremo Tribunal) continuam a reter o corpo de Walid Daqqa, como punição (já não dele, mas da família e dos seus companheiros de luta) e como moeda de troca de eventuais negociações – um feito para quem tanto tem falado em reféns.

Nos últimos dias foi libertado, agora com 23 anos e depois de passar 10 nas prisões israelitas, Ahmed Manasra. Preso aos 13 anos, sujeito a dois anos de prisão solitária e aos tratamentos mais cruéis, Manasra desenvolveu profundas sequelas psicológicas, que seguramente o marcarão para toda a vida.

Durante a vigência do fugaz cessar-fogo do início deste ano, como parte do acordo, foram libertados milhares de homens, mulheres e crianças palestinas, alguns deles já entretanto presos de novo. Entre eles encontravam-se grandes figuras da resistência palestina, como Zakaria Zubeidi, simbolo da Segunda Intifada e protagonista da fuga da prisão de Gilboa, em 2021, e Khalida Jarrar, uma das mais destacadas dirigentes palestinas. Entre muitos milhares de homens, mulheres e crianças encarcerados nas prisões de Israel – calcula-se que bem mais de 10 mil pessoas – encontram-se ainda figuras como Ahmad Sa’adat, Secretário-Geral da FPLP e Marwan Barghouti, alto dirigente da Fatah e tido como uma das figuras mais unificadoras do movimento nacional palestino.

Nesta data, o MPPM volta a reafirmar:

•    A exigência da libertação imediata dos presos palestinos detidos de forma abusiva nas prisões israelitas;

•    A sua solidariedade para com estes presos e para com as organizações, palestinas e internacionais, de apoio aos presos e de denúncia dos abusos e prática criminosa de Israel;

•    A exigência às autoridades do Estado português para que tomem todas as medidas para que Portugal não se veja, de forma nenhuma, envolvido no apoio político, económico, diplomático ou militar às políticas de Apartheid, limpeza étnica e genocídio levadas a cabo por Israel contra o povo palestino;

•    A exigência do governo português para que reconheça, sem mais delongas ou condições, o Estado da Palestina;

•    O seu apelo ao povo português e a todos os que têm lutado, em particular neste ano e meio, pelo fim do genocídio em curso, pelo reconhecimento e efectivação dos direitos nacionais do povo palestino e pela paz no Médio Oriente.

O MPPM reafirma ainda, neste dia simbólico e num tempo em que o povo palestino enfrenta a mais bárbara campanha de violência e brutalidade, a sua solidariedade e o seu compromisso em continuar a somar-se àqueles lutam por estas exigências.

MPPM honours Palestinian Prisoners' Day and reaffirms its solidarity with the Palestinian people

On Palestinian Prisoners' Day, the MPPM denounces Israel's human rights violations, calls for the immediate release of Palestinian political prisoners, demands that the Portuguese authorities refrain from complicit actions in the Israeli genocide and reaffirms its unconditional solidarity with the Palestinian people.

Today - 17 April - is the Palestinian Prisoners' Day. This day was decreed by the Palestinian National Council and celebrated for the first time in 1974, just eight days before the 25 April Revolution which led to the release of hundreds of political prisoners and an end to persecution and imprisonment for political reasons in Portugal.

In its regular activity, and with particular emphasis on 17 April, the MPPM has denounced the criminal, illegal and illegitimate persecutions and imprisonments carried out by Israel against activists and militants of the Palestinian national cause, the abuses and the almost absolute impunity and hypocrisy that Israel enjoys in these unacceptable practices.

Today, well over 18 months into Israel's biggest genocidal campaign against the Palestinian people, new and more grotesque images, cases and examples of the limitlessness of Israel's perfidy in its treatment of Palestinian prisoners have been exposed to the whole world on an almost daily basis.

Everyone still remembers the images of large groups of people, almost naked, with their hands tied and their eyes blindfolded, being exposed at gunpoint in the streets destroyed by the Israeli bombardment of Gaza. 

No one in their right mind has failed to be outraged by the sinister persecution of Dr Hussam Abu Safiya - director of the Kamal Adwan Hospital in Gaza - who has been held captive since 27 December, subjected to harsh conditions and with virtually no contact with his lawyer.

The current genocidal campaign in Gaza is rife with shocking cases like these, but not only there has Israel's criminal and especially cruel action against Palestinian prisoners been exposed to all who want to see it. On 7 April, the Palestinian prisoner Walid Daqqa, who had been in prison since 1986, died in Israeli jails, thus completing 38 years in Israeli prisons, the last of which he was seriously ill and without the medical care that his state of health required. To this day, the Israeli authorities (not just the government, but also the Supreme Court) continue to hold Walid Daqqa's body, as punishment (no longer for him, but for his family and his comrades in arms) and as a bargaining chip for possible negotiations - a feat for someone who has talked so much about hostages.

In the last few days, Ahmed Manasra was released, now 23 years old and after spending 10 years in Israeli prisons. Arrested at the age of 13, subjected to two years of solitary confinement and the cruellest treatment, Manasra developed deep psychological sequelae, which will surely mark him for life.

During the fleeting ceasefire at the beginning of this year, as part of the agreement, thousands of Palestinian men, women and children were released, some of whom have since been arrested again. Among them were major figures in the Palestinian resistance, such as Zakaria Zubeidi, a symbol of the Second Intifada and the protagonist of the escape from Gilboa prison in 2021, and Khalida Jarrar, one of the most prominent Palestinian leaders. Among the many thousands of men, women and children incarcerated in Israeli prisons - it is estimated that well over 10,000 people - there are also figures such as Ahmad Sa'adat, Secretary General of the PFLP and Marwan Barghouti, a senior Fatah leader and considered one of the most unifying figures in the Palestinian national movement.

On this date, the MPPM reaffirms:

- The demand for the immediate release of Palestinian prisoners held abusively in Israeli jails;

- Its solidarity with these prisoners and with the Palestinian and international organisations supporting the prisoners and denouncing Israel's abuses and criminal practices;

- The demand to the authorities of the Portuguese state to take all measures to ensure that Portugal is in no way involved in the political, economic, diplomatic or military support for the policies of apartheid, ethnic cleansing and genocide carried out by Israel against the Palestinian people;

- The demand that the Portuguese government recognise the State of Palestine without further delay or conditions;

- Its appeal to the Portuguese people and to all those who have been fighting, particularly in the last year and a half, for an end to the ongoing genocide, for the recognition and realisation of the national rights of the Palestinian people and for peace in the Middle East.

The MPPM also reaffirms, on this symbolic day and at a time when the Palestinian people are facing the most barbaric campaign of violence and brutality, its solidarity and commitment to continuing to join those fighting for these demands.
