Almada in solidarity with Palestine
The City Council of Almada, south of Lisbon, approved, on 5 December, a motion of solidarity with the Palestinian people, proposed by the councillor of the Block of The Left, which had the votes in favour of the councillors of the Socialist Party (5), the coalition Communist and Green Parties (4) and the Block of the Left (1) and the abstention of the councillor of the Social Democratic Party.
The motion recognises that there will be no peace without guaranteeing the self-determination of the Palestinian people and resolves, in order to reaffirm its commitment to defend the end of the occupation of the Palestinian territories and the recognition of the right of the Palestinian people to the constitution of a sovereign and viable state.
It salutes the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People and recommends the Government to defend the creation of the State of Palestine, condemn the Israeli occupation and apply sanctions to illegal settlements.
