The Association of Students of Faculty of Arts, University of Lisbon, and MPPM - Movement for the Rights of the Palestinian People and Peace in the Middle East - promoted a session of Solidarity with the People of Palestine, evocative of Land Day, on April 4.

There was an intervention by Carlos Almeida, of the National Directorate of MPPM, and Nuno Coelho, designer and co-author of "A Land without People for People without Land", directed a workshop based on his book.

Land Day, commemorated on the 30th of March, marks the date when, in 1976, the Israeli military fired on Palestinians who opposed the expropriation of their land to build new Jewish settlements and expansion of existing ones. Six Palestinian youths, Israeli citizens were killed. Dozens of people were injured and hundreds were arrested. Today, Land Day symbolizes Palestinian resistance to the continued expropriation of Palestinian land by Israel and its policy of colonization, occupation and apartheid. It is now evident that only a sustained international campaign, effectively and ethically consistent can force Israel to comply with its obligations under international law and respect the rights of the Palestinian People, especially the right to live in peace in a Palestinian state free, independent and sovereign.
